Cookie Policy

What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device to remember information between page views or visits. Similar technologies such as local storage and pixels work in comparable ways; we use the word "cookies" to cover all of them. This policy explains which cookies are used in connection with havenago (havenago.com) and how you can control them.
Our approach
havenago is deliberately lightweight. We have no user accounts, no newsletter and no advertising banners, so we do not need most of the cookies you find on typical travel sites. Only two categories of cookies play a role here: analytics cookies set by Google Analytics 4 on our own site, and affiliate tracking cookies set by third parties after you click an outbound link.
Analytics cookies: Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand, in aggregate, how visitors use havenago — which destination guides are read, which countries visitors come from and which hotels attract interest. GA4 sets cookies such as:
- _ga — distinguishes visitors with a random identifier; expires after up to 2 years.
- _ga_<container-id> — keeps track of the current session state; expires after up to 2 years.
These cookies contain pseudonymous identifiers, not your name or email address. GA4 does not log full IP addresses in reports. We look at this data only in aggregated form to improve our guides.
Affiliate cookies: CJ Affiliate and Booking.com
havenago earns commissions through the CJ Affiliate (Commission Junction) network. When you click a hotel link on our site, you are taken to Booking.com, and CJ Affiliate and Booking.com may set their own cookies in your browser. These cookies record that your visit came from havenago so that a completed booking can be attributed to us. They are set on third-party domains after you leave our site and are governed by the cookie and privacy policies of CJ Affiliate and Booking.com. We have no access to the data stored in them.
How to manage or disable cookies
You are always in control:
- Cookie consent: where a consent banner is shown, analytics cookies are only set after you agree, and you can change your choice at any time.
- Browser settings: every modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) lets you block or delete cookies, either entirely or per site. Check your browser's privacy settings.
- Google Analytics opt-out: install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on to prevent GA4 data collection on all sites.
- Third-party opt-outs: CJ Affiliate and Booking.com offer their own opt-out and privacy controls, described in their respective policies.
Blocking cookies does not affect your ability to read havenago — the site works fully without them. It may, however, prevent a booking from being attributed to us.
